I decided at the end of last year that one of my goals for 2026 was to gain weight. I have always been on the smaller side, something I have been insecure about. I wanted to gain weight but found it a bit challenging. Apparently my metabolism is faster than lightning. I also convince myself that I am allergic to things. I realized I had been swapping some easy calorie items for alternatives, almond milk instead of a whole mile, turkey instead of beef. I also realized I never exercised and lost a lot of weight due to inactivity.
So my plan for this year is to change some of my eating habits and workout more consistently. The gym intimidates me and I want to ensure that I stick to this, so I have invested in a home workout equipment. I found that choosing the right workout equipment makes all the difference. If you’re like me and you are trying to build your confidence and create consistencies from the privacy of your own on home, Here are some things that have worked for me so far.
💪 Why Home Workout Equipment Is Trending in 2026
With more people prioritizing health and convenience, at-home workouts continue to surge in popularity. Fitness enthusiasts and newbies want equipment that’s:
- Effective
- Space-saving
- Affordable
- Easy to use
Plus, trending gear now focuses on long-term consistency, not just quick results — and that includes staying hydrated with quality accessories like the Owala water bottle.
1. 🧘 Resistance Bands
The first thing I invested in is resistance bands. I mainly use these during lower body workouts, like squats and lunges; but you can use these for your arms as well. I like bands that are a fabric material instead of plastic. I feel it more and don’t worry they will break during my workout.
I like these from Amazon, they are lightweight and affordable.

Benefits:
- Improves strength & flexibility
- Portable for travel
- Suitable for all fitness levels
Best For: Strength training, mobility exercises, and even rehabilitation
2. 🏋️ Adjustable Dumbbells

I love these, they are a must-have for strength training at home. And I got them in my favorite color too! I had just about no arm strength when I started, but knew I would eventually need heavier weights as my fitness journey progressed. These were perfect because I can increase the weight as I build my strength. Remember, don’t start with the heaviest stack. If you are new to working out, start with a smaller weight and work your way up. One time, I went with 15 lbs when I should have been at 6 lbs. My arms were sore for days, which hindered me from completing my goal of 3 workout days a week. You don’t have to overdue it, this is a marathon not a sprint.
Benefits:
- Saves space
- Quick weight adjustments
- Builds muscle effectively
Best for: Strength training & full-body workouts
3. 🚴♀️ Stationary Exercise Bikes and Row Machines

I love this for cardio. I’m not big on running and it’s too cold outside to ride a bike. Stationary bikes deliver a high-intensity workout with low impact on joints — perfect for daily training. I got mine from my neighbor, but Amazon has one similar for a steal!
I also have a membership with a Row Studio. I just randomly fell in love with rowing. I feel like it is such a random thing to do, but it really gets my blood pumping and I have built up quite an endurance. The memberships can be pricey, but you can invest in a machine and watch some rowing workouts on Youtube instead. Let me know if you want my rowing playlist. 👀
Benefits:
- Great cardio alternative
- Low joint impact
- Some machines include built-in fitness metrics
Best for: Cardio lovers & interval training
4. 🧘♂️ Yoga Mats & Fitness Flooring

Okay, this is probably the most important item you are going to invest in. Every home gym needs a foundation. No doubt, you will need a high-quality yoga mat when you are working out at home. I use mine every time I workout, whether I am doing pilates, stretching, or floor workouts. I HATE when I am given a mat and it feels like I’m lying on the floor. Invest in one that offers you good support and comfort. This matters. This one is thick and anti-slip.
Benefits:
- Cushions joints
- Improves grip
- Defines your workout space
Best for: All-purpose home training
100% Whey Powder
Because I struggle with weight gain, I’ve been mixing 100% whey protein powder and whole milk to make protein smoothies after my workout. Sometimes, I’ll throw in some fruit if I’m feeling spicy. Whey powder can help with muscle maintenance and strength training. Whey powder is available in a variety of flavors and is a convenient way to supplement meals or for post-workout nutrition based on individual fitness needs and preferences. I get mine in the vanilla flavor, but will soon try the chocolate! I use the GNC brand, but check your dietary restrictions and pick the one that’s best for you.
💧 Don’t Forget Hydration:
You’ve seen them all over Tiktok. We all have. The Owala water bottle is becoming a breakout must-have for fitness fans. It stands out because it’s not just durable — it’s designed with workouts in mind:

- Mirror selfie
